We now have a new edition of the guide to Płock Zoo. From the cover, you are greeted with a gentle gaze by our beloved and rare resident – the black-and-white Malayan tapir, the largest of all living tapir species and the only one found in Asia. Unfortunately, this fascinating and mysterious species is seriously endangered, mainly due to deforestation and the clearing of bamboo forests for palm oil plantations. Its wild population is estimated at around 2,500 mature individuals. Our tapir, named Keenam, is two years old and a lively young male awaiting a partner. And do you know why we are so proud of him? Because, for now, he can only be seen in Poland at our Płock Zoo.
The guide follows the designated tour route of the Zoo. It includes information on the history of the Zoo, a glossary of some specialized terms, and an up-to-date map. We have highlighted the most interesting, rare, and valuable species in our collection, briefly mentioning the most fascinating facts about their biology. The guide also features a description of our newest exhibition – the Aquarium, which showcases a rich variety of exotic and native marine and freshwater species. Additionally, it includes captivating portraits of animals in their enclosures and exhibits, and from the back cover, a genuinely smiling zebra will bid you farewell.
We aimed to make the message of "Płock Zoo protects, fascinates, educates, and inspires" engaging and inviting for visitors. This publication was made possible thanks to funds from the budget of the Municipality of Płock and the Society of Friends of the Municipal Zoological Garden in Płock.
